Ray Ramírez was born in Manhattan, New York and raised in Humacao Puerto Rico to Puerto Rican parents. Inspired and encouraged by his music teacher Germán Peña Plaza, Ray "got serious" and attended the Music Conservatory of Puerto Rico where he studied the Classical Double Bass with Professor Manuel Verdeguer and Professor Federico "Freddie" Silva.

Ray has performed and recorded with some of the greatest artists in the world of Latin, Jazz and Classical music. His diverse recording and performance experience includes work with such legendary figures as Willie Rosario, Roberto Roena, Andy Montañez, Ismael Miranda, Angel Cachete Maldonado, Chocolate Armenteros,  Luis "Perico" Ortíz, Don Perignon, Tito Nieves, Guillo Rivera, Elías Lopes, Tito Rojas, Domingo Quiñonez, José "Cheo" Feliciano, Pedro "Conga" López, Luisito Ayala & his Puerto Rican Power, Rey Ruíz, Primi Cruz, Anthony Cruz, Pedro Brull, Rafael Muñoz Big Band, José Nogueras, Rafy Santana & Orquesta Homenaje, Sully Díaz "La Lupe", Strings on Wood Jazz Trio, Luna Llena Jazz Quartet, Dave Ramírez & his Latin Fire, San Juan Pops Symphony Orchestra and many others.

After having played with so many artists and musicians, Ray's interest in Bass construction started.

When you decide to order a Custom Made Bass from Ray Ramírez Basses, you will get a completely handmade, one of a kind, custom instrument.  Ray Ramírez Basses are built from quality solid hardwoods, quality fiberglass composites materials and only the finest hardware and custom electronics.  These basses are built with the bassist in mind who wants the beauty, elegance and craftsmanship of a handmade custom instrument with superb playability and tone.  All Ray Ramírez Basses come with  a  7 day trial period during which the bass can be returned for a partial refund. We have shipped basses worldwide and has been extremely successful pleasing our phone orders, mail order and internet clients. Please call us to or email us to discuss your instrument preferences and may suggest an instrument, we are confident you will be pleased with. We will ship your instrument after full payment has been received and, if after 7 days, you decide to return the instrument, you may do it after calling us. Provided the instrument is returned in perfect conditions, a partial refund, minus shipping charges and administrative fee will be issued.

Every Bass is build personally by Ray Ramírez , and no Bass leaves the shop until we are satisfied with it. When you receive your bass, it will play exactly as you requested; the action and feel will be tailored to your playing style. You can maintain a correspondence with us throughout the process of construction, and any questions or concerns you may have will be addressed immediately.

We are available to do highly customized work.  If you would like to design your own body shape or any other special requests, let us know and we can work out a bass that is truly unique. There are of course many more options available than those listed on the website; if you can think of it, we can do it.
