Oshun is the goddess of love and beauty in the yoruba pantheon. In folklore she is reknowned for her beauty and for her charm. but oshun is not just a beautiful woman, Oshun is the enchantress.She represents all the human sentiments and deep feelings, and she brings down the feelings of happiness of love,hate,tears of happiness and tears of sadness. Oshun is the owner of brass and her worshippers also wear brass bracelets as their insignia.She is smallest in the order of orisha, and yet is the one of the most popular and powerful orisha. She is the goddess of fertility and she gives the joy of childbirth to barren women and heals the sick by means of her medicinal waters.Oshun is the river deity and is the goddess of the Oshun river. She is the sweet water which sustains life and brings civilizations, and she is the freshwater stream. Oshun gives man the time to reflect. She is associated with mirrors, in that the first mirror was the river.In this sense, Oshun permits man to see himself as he really is. Oshun is the bloodstream of the body, and she rules the blood. She uses diabetes, hepatitis and other blood diseases against those who offend her. Oshun is the female master of strtegy. She doesn't like "cop out" artists.She is represented by the cricket. The cricket is most noted for its calling song which attracts the female; her foods are hens, female goats, quail and pidgeons. Her title of Yalodde is the highest honor that may be conferred upon a woman in the yoruba land.
