Six years later the Borg returned. Surprisingly though Starfleet were again unprepared for this, the second invasion attempt made by the Borg. Almost coming out of nowhere, the Borg took the Federation by surprise. Starfleet, was at the time spread very thin across the Quadrant and with recent losses at the Hands of the Dominion and the Klingon Empire, resources were low. |

Even with recent advances in weapons such as Quantum Torpedoes and Tri Cobalt devices the valiant effort of the fleet only managed to do superficial damaget to the Borg vessel and if it had not been for the intervention of the Enterprise the Borg would have succeeded in their goal to assimilate the Federation. At total of 19 Starships were destroyed in the Sector 001 incident, far less than the defeat at Wolf 359 and a total of seven Ships are currently being refitted after serious damage. These include the Intrepid Class USS Fiscus (seen getting caught in the fireball as the cube explodes) The Defiant Class USS Defiant, the Sovereign Class USS Enterprise E, the Steamrunner class USS Steamrunner and the Norway Class USS Viking. |
It is now generally thought in Starfleet Command that the Borg will not return for many year after the crushing victory inflicted on the them, however the Federation has learned their lesson with the Borg and contingency plans are already in place for such an event occuring at any time. |
