Area 001 was established along with the Star Fleet charter of 2161 with the goal protect and to keep the Federation's most secret technological advances and starships secret to the public. Also, it would study Alien technologies and other areas in order to ensure the survival of the Federation should something happen. It is an autonomous branch of Star Fleet Intelligence that keeps a low profile and doesn't have to turn in reports or authorization for their operations. The first facility was built on Stardate 2185 and was located on the Mars surface with fleetyards around it's orbit by the sector you might call Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards. To the regular Star Fleet officers, it was told that it was a scientific research facility and in a sense that was true. What they were not told is that Star Fleet's highest designers and officers worked together to create the first two Star Fleet starships. They were the U.S.S. Pompey NX-001 Pompey-class and the U.S.S. Daedalus NX- 100 Daedalus-class. These two starships looked very different in their design. The U.S.S. Daedalus was finished first in the year 2195. It was the very first ship to use the primary and secondary hull configuration. It's spherical primary hull was were the bridge and the rest of the primary systems were located in. The secondary hull contained the engineering section along with the warp core, deuterium supply, etc. along with valuable cargo space. The U.S.S. Pompey had a saucer with two Daedalus-class nacelles attached to it by small warp pylons angled at a 25 degree angle. It was the first starship built with the saucer which would be the "trademark" of future starship designs. After these two ships were finished and were in their testing stage in the Terran system, Star Fleet started to construct more Fleetyards to mass produce their starships. The first Fleetyards that were built were located in orbit around Earth and some around the other planets in the Sol System. For years, Area 001 was responsible for the production of many ships, the Constitution-class Heavy Cruiser, the Hermes-class Scout, the Federation-class Dreadnought, and so on. It was in Area 001 that the Constitution-class vessels U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701, U.S.S. Constitution NCC-1701, U.S.S. Republic NCC-1712, and the U.S.S. Ti-ho NCC-1718 were refitted with their new outer hull which then were re-located at the San Francisco Fleetyards and the Antaries Fleetyards for their crew assignment. Area 001 was also the location where the U.S.S. Excelsior-class Heavy Cruiser and its Retrofit were built and tested. It was later moved to Spacedock around Earth's orbit. Due to information leaks, the Commanding officers of the facility decided to move to a secret location that Star Fleet wouldn't even know about. This didn't come about until the year 2345. In that year, we added our facilities unto the Star Fleet Marines Fleetyards. There, the Marines built their own ships with the help of a couple of Fleet Yards. We added a small starbase in which the main offices of Area 001 were located in and also brought a couple of our own Fleet Yards which were specifically built for secret Star Fleet technology. After we left, the remaining Fleet Yards and the offices left in Mars were re-christened the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards which would be the Federation's most used ship-building facility ever since. Our new location was in the Star Fleet Marine Combat Training Center in Europa, near the Star Fleet Marine Combat Assault Ranges of Jupiter's Ring System. Area 001's location was left discrete for the reason that we didn't want anyone to know about us. Not even the Federation knew of our location. Star Fleet didn't find out that the facilities moved until 2350 in which they found out about the new Fleetyard at Mars. They officially chartered Utopia Planitia the Twelfth of August that year. We kept on building and designing ships for the Federation. We built the first New Orleans-class starship, the first Nebula-class Tactical Cruiser, and our Starship Design Team designed both the Galaxy-class and Sovereign-class Explorers. Of course, the Sovereign-class design was left untouched until the year 2357 in which the project was approved. The rest of the ships were built at Utopia and at the other Fleet Yards. During the 2360s, Area 001 became an even more important facility since we were the ones that designed the new ships that would counteract Borg Technology. When the current team became the Ruling Council of Area 001, we made sure that we would follow the traditions of those before us and would ensure safety for all.
