A lot of things have occured ever since the Dominion took over DS9. Before they did (As seen in A Call to Arms), Captain Benjamin Lafayette Sisko mined the entrance of the wormhole with mines that had self-replicating units in anticipation of such an attack by the Dominion. All Star Fleet and Bajoran personell were evacuated from Deep Space 9 except for Major Kira, Constable Odo, and Quark. Major Kira was to engage a computer and system wide cascade failure before Gul Dukat and the Dominion borded the station. This would sever all coonections to the staion from Ops. It took Dominion personell approximately one month to re-establsh control in ops and approximately four to five months to find a way to deactivate the mine field set by Sisko. During all of that time StarFleet had to re-call all of its starships in active duty from their exploratory missions and into the position to defend the Alpha Quadrant. Star Fleet Ship and Fleet Yards were hurried to boost up starship production and also boost up fighter production which was and still is at its lowest. A total of around 10 Fleets consisting of 800 average ships were assembled. Starfleet fought for 1 year a defensive battle against the Dominion. They were, however, some minor and major turning points in all the fighting. Many of these were led by Captain Sisko's advanced tactical skills under the supervision of Admiral Ross working from Starbase 375. One of these was the destruction of the Dominion's Sensor Array in the Argolis Cluster, and the destruction of the Dominion's main storage facility of the infamous Narcotic Ketracel White which undertook the penetration of Dominion territory. This succesful campaign led Sisko and some of his men trapped deep within Dominion territory but the Defiant was able to retrieve them after they succesfully sent out a message and captured a Jem'Harad Vorta in the process. During some of these activities Lt. Cmd. Jadzia Dax commandeered the U.S.S. Defiant due to Sisko's responsibility in Fleet Operations. Of course, Starfleet couldn't keep on fighting this war in a guerilla warfare form even though at times was succesful but not enough. Sisko knew this and so that is why he devised Operation Return after many months of bloody slaughter.
Operation Return: The Starfleet offensive mounted to retake Deep Space 9 was designated Operation Return, and this effort proved to be one of the costliest to Starfleet in lived and space vessels. This operation pointed up not only Starfleet's strenghts, but aits admitted shortcomings. The lasting effect of the action has not yet been determined, though computer simulations are ongoing to calculate threat force strategic, tactical, and industrial movements, based on existing algorithms and intelligence-gathering operations. With the combined Cardassian and Dominion capabilities in the Alpha Quadrant crippled for the time being, the combat situation has been reduced to more manageable levels. Both sided have continued to add to hardware, manpower, and supplies, with occasional hostilities along spatial borders. In terms of rapid vehicle production, refitting, and weapons loadouts, Stafleet was able to perform a series of miracles. Large numbers of warp vessels, not yet fully constructed in their shipyard assembly fixtures, were brought up to basic flight standards and given, on average, 35-percent more phaser and photon torpedo capability. Most internal habitable spaces, such as living quarters and laboratories, were left uninstalled, allowing for increased weapons and other defensive gear. The difficulties encountered by Stafleet Command in preparing for Operation Return centered around vessel deployments, intelligence, and security deficits. Some fleets were selectively reduced in sectors of active conglict according to specific risk-assessment calculations. Starfleet Command authorized the ship movements if, and only if, the ships could be restored to their original theatres of operation when the Deep Space Nine reacquisition of assets was concluded. Intelligence operatives and remote sensor data were not as numerous or as effective as Starfleet desired. Various barriers compounded the problem; few sympathetic Cardassian individuals could be found to penetrate military ranks, not enough time existed for covert activities, and transmissions or couriers of gathered data were stymied by heavy security measures, made more difficult by the ongoing discord between Cardassian Central Command and the Obsidian Order. Security on the Starfleet side was occasionally compromised, primarily through remote sensing by the Cardassians and Dominion forces. Seemingly stealthy movements of Starfleet assets were detected by one or more large subspace antenna arrays. Additionally, some computer security systems were breached by unknown agents, requiring more robust levels of access protocols and user ID verification. The damage to Stafleet, Bajoran, and Klingon defenses is still being evaluated. Eight major classes or warp-capable starhip were instrumental in bringin about the victory at Deep Space Nine during Operation Return, the first extended military action involving multiple fleet groups since the Battle of Wolf 359. Four other classes saw limited numbers of vessels diverted from Beta Quadrant patrol duty to augment the Seventh and Ninth Fleets in Bajor Sector combat. in the months leading up to the military action, Starfleet made a number of alterations to its shipbuilding schedules across all fleet yards, including three undisclosed assembly bases outside the Federation Defense Perimeter. In addition to the following classes, rapid prototyping and refurbishment was initiated on at least 178 partial builds, salvaged hulls, and spaceworthy warp engine systems. The ships that could be structurally mated and outfitted were hastily launched and flight-tested, more often than not given no formal name or registry number. Some temporary designations for survining vessels have passed through the formal review process since the operation and may be added to the official ship inventory. As an example of the expedited assembly procedures applied to some of the existing classes, a number of Galaxy-class hulls were pulled from the internal structures work path, equipped with additional weapons, and launched with 65 percent of their spaceframe volumes empty. |

After the success of Operation Return, DS9 was finally back in the control of the Federation. The 3rd Fleet remained stationed there for a time just to secure its protection from any further attacks. Deep Space 9 became a major supply and repair depot for the near fighting fleets. There were brief periods of cease-fires and more of a build-up. The Federation hasn't had all victories in this war. It did receive some fatal blows. For example, the cripling of the 7th Fleet from 112 starships to 14. Also the Invasion of Betazed even though the 10th Fleet was protecting it. Apparently, the fleet was in the middle of some exercises and the Dominion task force invaded Betazed at ease due to the lack of any resistance. It was during this time that Ensign Nog and civilian Jake Sisko, in a mission to Ferengenor to offer a treaty with the Ferengi from the Federation, that the U.S.S. Valiant NCC-74210, sister ship of the U.S.S. Defiant, lead by Red Squad, Starfleet Academy's elite force of cadets who are the best of the best, saved Ensign Nog and Mr. Sisko from a Dominion raid of a nearby Starbase. Ensign Nog then became a temporary member of Red Squad serving as Engineer and promoted to Lieutenant. The mission of the Valiant was a deep space mission chartering the Alpha Quadrant. Most recently they were called to get tactical information of a new Dominion BattleCruier Prototype. Their further attempt to disable the ship proved unsuccesful killing all but one member of Red Squad and destroying the U.S.S. Valiant in the process. Another turning point in the Dominion War came to be when the Romulans set a second offensive front against the Dominion. Again, it was Captain Sisko, with help of Special Operative Garak, that helped to bring this about secretly from Starfleet's knowledge. This gave hope to all species in the Alpha Quadrant who scorned the Dominion when the Three Superpowers and Empires set an alliance to fight the Dominion. But the most noticable turning point in the war occured at the Chintoka System. It was an joint offensive campaign between Starfleet, the Klingon Empire, and the Romulan Star Empire. They were succesful in being able to incapacitate the unmaned weapons platforms that defended the system along with the Five Squadrons of Jem Hadar fighters who early in the fighting committed Kamikazi runs against the Klingons crippling and destroying 20 of their ships. After the platforms were disabled, Starfleet Marines and Klingon Troops were dispatched to the surface to destroy Jem'Hadar Breeding Yards and ships were are also dispatched to destroy secondary shipyards in orbit around the planet. Back in Deep Space Nine, Gul Dukat, under the influence of the Bajoran Pa'reth killed Lt. Cmdr. Jadzia Dax in a successful attempt in infiltrating the Bajoran Wormhole Aliens a.k.a. The Prophets by the Bajoran people and the temporary closing of the wormhole occured. Lt. Cmdr. Dax's death was not one in vain for her husband Lt. Cmdr. Word Son of Mogh along with a handful of comrades and General Martog single handedly destroyed a major Domion Fleetyard which housed more than 600 ships. They accomplished such a task by creating a Solar Flare using an inverse pularized beam from a Klingon Bird-of-Prey which bombared the Yard causing a chain reaction to occur since the ships were not equipped with the necessary shielding to escape their fate. A recent difficult task has been the protection of the Chintoka System, specifically AR-5055. A squad of Starfleet Marines and Troops have fortified the outpost while a squad of Starfleet Engineers has been trying to tap into the Main Communications Array of the Dominion which is housed there. Captain Sisko along with crewmembers of the Defiant helped fortify the outpost and disable Jem'Hadar defenses until the U.S.S. Veracruz brought in reinforcements. |
