Fleet Admiral Jonathan Kensler

Admiral Kensler was born on stardate 2335 to parents of mixed heredity. His mother was a Star Fleet captain of a science ship, who was half Vulcan and half human. Upon one of the missions a planet was found where both Romulans and Klingons had colonized the planet. Upon first scans, only two large, but destroyed settlements were found, one Romulan and the other Klingon. They had apparently destroyed each other. Further scans however found yet a third settlement, much smaller than the first two, but the third was comprised of both Romulan and Klingon life signs and some that were in-between. Once the scan had been completed, the settlement hailed the ship. The settlement could not have detected the ship earlier since their scanners had been destroyed and they had only limited power to send communications, all of the previous of which they had sent out had failed. The Klingon and Romulan factions of the planet had in the past gone to war with each other, but since they were supposed to be autonomous of their governments, and their governments were more busy with other matters, no supplies or reinforcements came and as the war took its toll, nearly everything and everybody were destroyed with nothing to replace them. The few people left on both sides eventually agreed to a truce, and so an uneasy alliance was formed. Both sides had very little of the modern technology left from before and so the new settlement was quite primitive. Eventually the two separate societies of the Romulans and Klingons became so intertwined that they ceased existing as two separate societies and fused into one. The new society formed into one of peace were pacifism was embraced, its inhabitants had learned how to get along and get past there violent nature, just for the fact that their survival instinct was strong and they knew that if they allowed their violent instincts were allowed to be expressed, the society on which they all depended would evaporate. Still, there was no denying their very nature, both were born for fighting. So what did evolve out of the situation was an interesting system in which fighting became an artform to be perfected, Klingon combat skills and strength with Romulan tactics, trickery, and intelligence were all combined into a martial arts form of its own. While trickery in fighting, and fighting itself were embraced, still pacifism ruled, an adaptation of Klingon honor was used, in which the people of the settlement could fight each other, but only in practice and games, even as intense as they were. They games only lasted a time and after that grudges were not held, and there could be no fights that were not recreation or self improvement, there were no personal fights and when not engaged in these activates a strict system of respect was in place. And so fighting and the peoples violent instincts were embraced together with pacifism, creating people who could get along with others, and yet could be extremely aggressive when need be or when they want to. After a while, some children were born of dual Romulan and Klingon heritage, one of which was decided upon to become the leader of the settlement, for his leadership, brilliance, and ferocity, he was Admiral Kenslers father. When the settlement was scanned, they decided to use some of their precious reserve energy and try to send a communications signal. The captain of the orbiting starship returned the communications signal asking their status and identification. The settlement responded with the message that they were a simple colony and could use any assistance that the ship could provide. The captain decided that their was minimal danger in the situation and so beamed down into the middle of the settlement together with her security officer and a pair of other officers. The captain met with the leader of the settlement and immediately liked him. The captain asked how she could help them in specific and the leader gave the answer that he had already talked with the others of the colony and that although they were of Romulan and Klingon descent, they would be outcasts if they were to return to either or both societies and in coming to the decision had decided to request asylum with the United Federation of Planets. The captain returned to her ship and reported the happenings to Star Fleet, who gave back the orders that she was to aide them in any reasonable way possible and that their request for asylum had been accepted. The captain beamed back down and informed the settlement of the decision of Star Fleet and started to address the needs of the settlement. She did the little that she could, but was soon called away for another assignment. She still could not help but to think of the leader. In the meantime however he often look upon the night stars and thought of her. After her assignment was done, she specially requested the assignment of giving more extended aide to the colony. The request was granted, and so she went back and worked with the colony. She and the leader soon fell in love and married, and then had a son.

The son grew up as always happens. He had the Vulcan and Romulan traits of having fairly short and straight hair, but from his human side he retained brown colored hair. To further add to the strangeness of his complexion, on his forehead he had a very distinct bony ridge. He grew up on the colony after his mother resigned from Star Fleet when she was married, and was an active youth. He was raised under the unique system of the colony and quickly learned respect but also how to fight and defend himself quite well. As hybrids do, he received the best qualities from each of his constituent races. Although physically he was extremely strong and aggressive, throughout his childhood he did not care for such things very well but felt them to just be a required part of his society. What interested him were intellectual things. From his Human and Klingon sides he received his love for life and emotional thrill of the moment. But what was even more deeply engrained in him was thinking and inventing. His Romulan side provided for his understanding of technology, but he could structure and organize his thoughts as a Vulcan would do, but had the human improvisation abilities and so a certain element of randomness and unusual thinking was added into the formula of his thoughts.

Once he had grown, he had tired of the colony and decided that there was surely more in the galaxy in store for him than this, especially after having grown up hearing his mothers stories of her adventures throughout space. And so he decided to follow in the steps of his mother and enter into Star Fleet. He was accepted into Star Fleet and entered the Academy in Stardate 2353. He did quite well in his classes, not spectacularly so, but reasonably. Unlike most of his friends, he really did not have all that much desire to captain a ship, but was more interested instead in their technical aspects and designing them. And so he majored in engineering, specifically communications and quantum/warp technologies. He spent his field study duties at a remote starbase deep inside of Federation space. It was an extremely inactive tour of duty, nothing ever seemed to happen to the starbase. He did however study under and older engineer. Although he was getting on in age, and a relic of ages gone by, he none the less knew the starbase and ships that came by extremely well. Some of the technology he had even played a hand in creating in his earlier days of duty when he was more active. He had actually chosen this post as a place to settle down where things would be a lot quieter than in most of the other Star Fleet posts. Cadet Kensler learned much from him and like him greatly since he was one of the few people who had never looked at him strangely or stared at him with his strange composition. A good number of other cadets at the Academy had made fun of him or been prejudiced against him for his strange looks and composition. Cadet Kensler's field study ended and he graduated soon after.

Due to his specializing in communications, Star Fleet assigned him to a deep space station along the border of the neutral zone, where a network of communications and detection buoys had been set up. When he and a Lieutenant were performing maintenance checks on the system one day, the system went down entirely, they worked tirelessly together and soon found that it was sabotage and furthermore the records indicated a ship from across the border of the neutral zone had committed the act. Soon after finding this out however, he and the lieutenant were both taken off the assignment and never heard anything else about what happened again. A few months later they were put on the duty of monitoring the same network of buoys, the problem that they had before had of course been cleared up by that time and strangely there was simply no record of the incident ever having happened. Nothing happened for months, but now Ensign Kensler was extremely diligent in his duties, and grew to know and study the system so well that he came across something that he considered not quite right and that had been going on for as long as he was there. He worked independently for days without sleep trying to figure out what he sensed was wrong. Eventually he started to figure it out even though he was not able to decipher what it was. Someone was covertly using the system for non-authorized communications. Essentially they were piggy backing the system. It was going to take Ensign Kensler another day or so in order to make sure his readings were correct. A Federation supply ship made and unexpected stop at the station and Ensign Kensler soon found that he was alone in a conference room with a person from the supply ship who had the rank on his collar of being an ensign himself. He started off explaining that no he was not actually an ensign, but a good deal higher up in rank than that, but the disguise was necessary to conceal his real rank and position since he was in Star Fleet Intelligence, and his ship was also a Star Fleet Intelligence ship but was for obvious reasons having it's real identity concealed. The man went on to talk to Ensign Kensler about what Ensign Kensler had found, but soon told the Ensign the important part. Star Fleet Intelligence was the one piggy backing the system as it was really being used as part of a discreet communications system with contact on the other side of the Neutral Zone. Ensign Kensler was order to not say anything ever again about it and was dismissed. Ensign Kensler went on with his duties at the space station, but had the feeling of being closely watched and scrutinized. In reality he was, and all of his reports and records were being carefully pored over. As Ensign Kenslers tour of duty came to an end and he started to look for another post, Star Fleet Intelligence came to a decision of their own, they had monitored and investigated him since he found out about their piggy back communications and had decided to take a risk on him and offer to allow him to join intelligence as a specialist in communications. Ensign Kensler accepted and was promoted to Lieutenant upon his joining of Star Fleet Intelligence.

Lieutenant Kensler worked on numerous projects for the communications department at Star Fleet intelligence, he worked on improving the efficiency of subspace communications, as well as studying possible methods of communication for the Federation. For the most part it was found that the current system was reasonable, but he was pivotal in starting projects that would later be worked on further and result in large communications advances for Star Fleet. He did reasonably well at working on deciphering the other main empires communications systems and codes, but found that he really did not like the work. He then went on to improve the universal translator and work on the intelligence programming of the device so that he decreased the overall time it usually took for the device to be able to translate a language and become more proficient at it. After this he went back and worked on finding alternative methods of communications for the Federation, and worked on one of the projects he had started, which dealt in quantum communications, both fields that he was quite familiar with. Significant advances were made under his direction and work, most of which are still classified. He worked his way up the ranks and gained more responsibilities and power. He was soon also in charge of heading a good number of the ship designing projects that Star Fleet Intelligence was a part in.

Although he himself was not in the battle of Wolf 359, he had been shortly before put on the main team that was involved in getting the fleet of ships together for the battle, no easy task and beyond this was involved in the setting up of communications channels for when the entire fleet was together and in battle, so that signals would not get mixed.

After this he chaired a committee responsible for studying Borg communications, a most interesting system. The Borg communicated as machines in a network and yet they thought, and spoke in one voice transcending normal chaos patterns associated with large scale communications. This was further deemed important as the found way of destroying the Borg had to do with using their own communications system against them. Another area of Borg communication methods that were studied were on the microscopic level, studying the bio-cyber interactions that made up the bodily communications within the individual drone, and so it was hoped to find a way to combat the Borg influences on Federation citizens on a microscopic level, minor success in this has been found but nothing conclusive as of yet.

He then started studying and analyzing communications patterns and efficiency of communications aboard star ships. He simplified and improved the communications systems on a number of the larger star ships in the Federation including the Nebula, Akira, Excelsior, Ambassador, Galaxy and Sovereign class starships, improving computer time and increasing and streamlining the bandwidth current of information throughout the ships, increasing efficiency at least slightly in all areas of the ships. He was promoted to Lt. Commander for this job that was considered tedious and mundane, but very very important. During these workings however, it had become vital for him to work closely with the various ships lay outs and designs in order to work on his job. He had always liked messing with the designs of the ships, but had never really taken the idea of ship designing for himself seriously. Also by that time he had a very thorough knowledge of starships and maximizing them for efficiency. He had done an extremely good job in communications and so it distressed his superiors greatly when he requested a transfer to ship designing even though they knew that people in communications usually only served a short time before moving on to other things and Lt. Commander Kensler had served longer than most. So he moved on to other things. He took a while to move up in the approval of his superiors in star ship designing but he eventually did and in the meantime he became more experienced working as an apprentice in the design of such ships as the Intrepid class. He slowly gained more authority and respect and was once again promoted, this time to the rank of Commander, for the larger ships he worked mostly under others, but for smaller ships he was often assigned to head the projects himself. His ships were liked and good enough that he was promoted once again to Captain and headed all but one of the projects he worked on. His ships just kept getting better and better, more efficient and better, becoming one of the favored ship builders in the Federation, he was also slowly but surely given the responsibility of not only ship designing but of ship construction also, having to get together the materials and everything else needed. He rose through the ranks and at the rank of Rear Admiral he was attending a private meeting with an Admiral when he was given the chance to partake in a new project that Rear Admiral Kensler found most intriguing, the project called Area 001. He accepted the offer to be a part of it and was officially promoted to full Admiral at the very same time that he officially moved his office to Area 001. It took him a while to start setting up his construction and design facilities, but once he had set things up for himself, he started producing ships and other things in a furry. Early on in Area 001, he created the U.S.S. Luxembourg, officially deemed an escort ship. His crowning achievement though was probably the construction space station Mulligan, capable of creating multiple ships at the same time. It also had very tight defenses and a good number of docking areas. For these ingenious constructions he was promoted to Fleet Admiral.

During Fleet Admiral Misra's absence from Area 001 due to some extensive missions in the Gamma Quadrant, Admiral Kensler was left in charge and drastically upgraded the Area 001 facility into a modern operational center. During this time period, He started designs on the U.S.S. Darklight, which has still not been put into full production. Then came the Area 001 incident, where he was demoted, and then re-promoted later, due to his work on the total redesigning of the U.S.S. Durant. He also later started designs on the Marquis de Lafayette, but he eventually cancelled this project. At the end of his time with Area 001, he started designs on the U.S.S. Thunderflare. Finally, just after his sudden resignation on 59901.01, he dissapeared never to be heard from again.
