When
Using the Factory Steering Wheel is not an
Option

All
AEVIT® systems operating the vehicle
steering controls, share the same
components. The only difference between the
systems is the "plug &
play" Input Device(s) that
you will use. Each of the systems or "Series"
listed on this page will contain these
standard components listed here.
EMC offers optional Mounting Systems for
the AEVIT® components. Check with your
dealer for available options.

S-Series
The
"NEW" S-Series is a
Steering only system that utilizes a
10" diameter yoke input
device. The steering wheel rotates 180
degrees in either direction and returns to
center via an adjustable forced feedback
mechanism that allows for custom tailoring
to the drivers needs.
Special "Hybrid"
software has been developed within AEVIT®
to deliver the most realistic feeling to the
OEM steering control yet! These hybrid
settings (sensitivity) are selectable
on screen via the AEVIT® Information
Center, and allow you to create the "feel"
of the steering best suited to your driving
style or needs!
The molded steering yoke can
be fitted with switches to access EMC secondary
controls such as horn, dimmer, wipers,
and cruise control, or can be used to access
voice commands with VIC®. The
yoke also contains 3-slots that allow the
fitting of EMC steering orthotic devices
such as spinner knobs, cuff adapters, and
tri-pins. |

W-Series
The
W-Series is a Steering only system that
utilizes a miniature 6" diameter wheel
input device. The total number of rotations
from full left steer to full right steer is
6-3/4 turns. This equates to an approximate
2:1 ratio between the W-Series input device
and the OEM steering system. The force input
required to turn the wheel is 0.2 lbs. as
measured at the proper orthotic position of
3-3/8" from center. The W-Series
control input enclosure measures 7.0” x
4.5” x 2.5” and weighs only 4.7 lbs.
Just below the wheel, a spring tensioned
friction sleeve is used to provide a smooth
feel to the driver and prevent motion of the
wheel due to inertia without an input from
the driver. |

A
durable worm gear drive, which consists of a
rotating threaded shaft and a toothed wheel
mounted on a perpendicular shaft that mesh
together, is supported by two, 3/8"
bearings underneath the wheel and one
3/16" bearing on the bottom of the worm
shaft. These bearings are manufactured to
ABEC 3 specifications which outlines
tolerances for size and geometric accuracy.
All electronics are completely isolated from
the forces applied to the wheel. A unique clutching
device is incorporated so that the straight
ahead position of the chosen orthotic can be
adjusted to any location on the wheel. |

XJ-Series
The
X-Series is a Steering only system that
utilizes a single axis joystick input
device. The exposed height of the joystick
is approximately 4.25”" and an
angular displacement, or range, of only 50
degrees is required to move the input from
the full left steer position to full right.
The mechanism is extremely low-effort,
requiring a maximum input force of only 0.2
lbs, and is internally spring-loaded to
return to the center, or null, position. The
joystick is coupled to a 3-channel
potentiometer that provides three discrete
input position signals to the single drive
module of the system.
The X-Series input device can be positioned
for either left hand or right hand
operation. The input control enclosure
measures 7.0” x 4.5” x 2.5” and weighs
only 3.0 lbs. The software within the system
provides four (4) unique control
algorithms developed by EMC
specifically for joystick steering. These
allow "on-screen"
programming in the Information Center by the
dealer and evaluator to maximize the clients
input strength and range of motion. In
addition to the control algorithms, the
AEVIT® joystick steering systems also
incorporates software to reduce the speed of
the output servomotor as the speed of the
vehicle increases. This feature is designed
to reduce over-steering scenarios at high
speeds. |
