Project Participants

Principal Investigators:

  1. Dr. Ernesto Otero, Department of Marine Science, UPR-Mayaguez

Principal Investigator. Responsible for the overall coordination and supervision of research activities. Developed sampling approach and protocol for the determination of the distribution of propeller scars and conducted the preliminary aerial survey of the study area to determine where to concentrate field activities. Participates regularly in field surveys to evaluate the data collection process and assure data uniformity and quality.

  2. Dr. Lisamarie Carrubba, Caribbean Field Office, Habitat Conservation Division, NOAA Fisheries

Co- Principal Investigator. Supervised the development of the protocol for transferring data from the field investigations and DGPS into ArcView to create maps of impacted areas. This protocol serves as the basis for the metadata produced for the project maps. Responsible for the development of the final versions of Arc-View coverages of propeller scars and the creation of the project web page, which was developed in cooperation with Dr. Otero.

Graduate Students:
  1. Nilda Jimenez, Ph.D. Student, Department of Marine Science, UPR-Mayaguez

Responsible for integrating raw data into ArcView coverages based on the protocol developed under the supervision of Dr. Carrubba and the production of metadata for project maps. Shares the responsibility for field surveys and evaluating sampling approaches in different locations. To view Nilda's curriculum vitae click here.

  2. Jorge Bauza, Ph.D. Candidate, Department of Marine Science, UPR-Mayaguez

Main responsibilities are related to the maintenance and preparation of sampling equipment, including DGPS and buoys, and downloading data from DGPS unit to the project computer. Shares the responsibility for field surveys and evaluating sampling approaches in different locations. To view Jorge's curriculum vitae click here.
