Project Maps

On this page you will find general location maps showing the location of Puerto rico in relation to the coterminous U.S., the location of the towns of Parguera and Guanica, and aerial photographs of both study areas. Overlain on the aerial photographs are locations of seagrass beds as identified by NOAA/NOS in their benthic maps. There are also close-ups of the aerial photographs for each study site and maps of the field results identifying the locations of propeller scars.

This figure shows the location of Puerto Rico in relation to the coterminous U.S. Also shown is the location of the municipalities of Guánica and Lajas. The town of Guánica from which the Natural Reserve extends seaward for 8 nautical miles is shown as is the town of La Parguera within the Municipality of Lajas. The approximate locations of the Natural Reserves are marked on the aerial photographs taken by NOAA/NOS is December of 1999 and the locations of marine areas defined as containing seagrasses in the NOAA/NOS benthic maps are overlain on the photos.

The area of the Guánica Natural Reserve where the seagrass study concentrated is delimited in the photograph.
