Combining his organizational skills with his enthusiasm for art, he became
one of the founders and president of The Art Students League of San Juan in
1968. In 1970 he was awarded the annual prize for sculpture from the Ateneo
Puertorriqueño and a year later he presented an individual exhibit
of his sculptures in the Museum of The University of Puerto Rico.
In 1979 Hopgood produced his first audiovisual work entitled "Flores
Silvestres de Puerto Rico" which was exhibited in Puerto Rico, Houston

This marked the beginning of the educational videos about the flora and
fauna of Puerto Rico now presented by Audio Visuales del Caribe, Inc.
